With love.... On Mothers Day

My mum was not the typical mum who would wake up very early in the morning to prepare breakfast for us. Nor is she the type who will cook tirelessly for us while we are still in school, so that by the time we get home, there would be a hot cup of chocolate and welsh cakes waiting for our much deserved snacks.

She was a busy, hard working modern mother (retail manager by trade) who worked 8 hours a day, then came home and faced the household chores.

After dinner, she would always catch her favourite TV shows. As a child, I was watching TV programmes meant for adults, you name it, i’ve watched it. Eastenders, Coronation Street, Dallas, Juliet Bravo, The Sweeney....the list is endless.

My mother was very intelligent. I admire her for what she knew and for being so cool about it. Ask her any question and she always beamed with the right answer, (I wonder how she did that). She often challenged my values, my convictions - making sure that I keep the right values close to my heart always.
When I started to grow up and became conscious of my physical "looks," my mother would always highlight what she thinks is good about me. I mean, she would always comment on how good I carry myself and the way I quickly interact with people, she has always been fair with me, likewise, telling me what and where to improve myself and always pushing me to read and write so I would improve my vocabulary.

The wisdom that my mum shared with me is simply priceless. These are the very things that I, in turn, share with my daughters... especially now that they are quickly growing up and are about to be teenagers
Whether I am in the corporate jungle or simply at home, whether embracing a distraught child or having coffee with my friends, everything that my mom has taught me is still fresh inside of me.

I know that life is a long process of learning from past experiences but without a mother guiding me as I grew through life, my paths would have been different. I will not deny it, there were times when I'd listen to my mum and do the exact opposite. I tell you, I have learned my lessons ever since.
I have always enjoyed talking with her because there were always new things to learn from her. Learning never stops when I am with my mother. She was the best, if not the bestest.
